Well this Rotary year is winding down and Josh will be sitting on the Presidential throne soon and learning how to ring the bell.

Mark's last Presidential club meeting will be this week Wednesday 11 June. He will be headed to Canada for the RI convention and the other thing he does is make money in his job in Vegas. We will pull the final raffle tickets and announce the cash winner this Wednesday club meeting. We will also have the discussion and vote for the new club bylaws this Wednesday. We will announce the Membership Growth Contest winner this week also.

We will have a club meeting on Wednesday 18 June.

We will not hold club meetings on 25 June and 2 July due to RI convention and 4th July holiday.

Club Volunteer Work Day Event

Well it was another Saturday Work Day in the life of the Rotary Club of Sugar Land. Last Saturday we were at the Thrift Wise Fort Bend Women’s Center Store and mulched all the trees and landscaping areas around the property. We had a total of 25 Volunteers including 14 Rotarians and family members, 10 ROTC students/leader and 1 House of Representative from Congress(Representative). Did you notice the new Rotary shirts worn by the Rotarians in the pictures!! Well when you come to a work project with our Club you can get a free shirt that says “Rotarian at Work”. We look forward to having you all come to the next club work day!!

Fort Bend ISD: Sugar Land 95 Historical Marker Dedication & Unveiling Ceremony

I want to make you aware that a major milestone in the Sugar Land 95 Memorial Project will occur on June 19, 2025. The long-awaited Texas State Historical Marker has arrived and will be unveiled at a special ceremony and celebration at the James Reese Career and Technical Center. The event will be hosted by the Fort Bend County Historical Commission, Fort Bend ISD, and our community partner, Friends of the Sugar Land 95.

Due to the event taking place on Juneteenth, we anticipate a large number of attendees, including descendants of the Sugar Land 95, dignitaries, officials, students, staff of FBISD, and the community at large. We are planning a robust program that will engage attendees in a heartfelt experience to include music, speakers, and opportunities to learn more about the progress of the Sugar Land 95 Memorial Project.

The two-part event will include the official dedication ceremony and procession to the cemetery for the unveiling, followed by a community celebration hosted by the Friends of the Sugar Land 95.

We welcome you and your organization to be a part of this community event and consider being an event sponsor. There are various levels of sponsorship and opportunities to assist us in making this a meaningful day for both our community and the newly identified descendants of the Sugar Land 95 who attend.

Attached to this email is the event promotion packet that includes the event flyers and sponsorship opportunity details. I ask that you share the flyer with your networks and on social media.

You can RSVP to attend here: Sugar Land 95 Historical Marker Dedication and Unveiling Ceremony.

Please let me know if you are interested in supporting. I can answer any questions or discuss details at your convenience.
Helping Young Women in Houston

Edited email from Karen Blakeman, Rotarian:  "at a recent District 5890 Peace Committee Zoom Meeting, District Governor Nancy Anderson informed everyone that there was some discussion about having a project to help young women stay in school during their monthly cycle.  Hard to believe that here in Houston we have a problem like the 3rd world countries that Rotary has programs for.  But it's understandable that those families struggling financially come up short for purchasing feminine hygiene needs.  We know that staying in school is how to break the poverty cycle – so this is vital!

The solution is to have products stocked at schools, available to students at no charge with no questions asked.

Getting this started is a project that Interact students can be involved in.

It’s probably obvious that this is not a one-and-done project – but something needed on an ongoing basis.

If you are interested in knowing more, please join a zoom discussion on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7pm."

Membership Moments

Amazing 2 new club members in 2 weeks. Welcome to Timothy Taite as our newest member. A little about Tim as he is a little slow about getting involved in the club so far. He applies through Rotary International for info on our club, He attends one club meeting in late April, He says he likes the club and the members he met, He fills out an application 2 days after his first club meeting, He is approved by the board and the club in less than 2 weeks, He then did Rotary College, He then signs up to be in charge of the 5K event for 2026, He then volunteers to be a greeter at club meetings also, He then comes to the next work day at the Women's Center, He is then inducted a few days later. Well what can I say he may be slow but after 4 years as membership chair no one has even been that fast. Also you cannot miss him at a club meeting as he usually loves to wear a fancy, expensive, custom fitted suit. He did mention to me that no suit was worn at the work day and we have pictures to prove that!! Say Hi too our newest member if you miss him at the front entrance.

Membership growth contest update:

Mark is a young working dude and works with Edward Jones as a financial planner. Shake his hand and welcome him into the club the next time you see him at a club meeting. Oh by the way he was so excited about joining our Rotary club and wanted to see what we do for service projects sooooooo he volunteered to be our new club calendar person. If you have any new or upcoming events you need added to the calendar please contact Mark in club runner.

Stop and say hello to our newest club members!
