• Speaker: 10 September 2025 - Dr. Marc Smith (Superintendent FBISD) - FBISD Outlook for 2025-2026
  

Dr. Marc Smith is a steadfast leader focused on putting students first.

He has served in public education for over 30 years, where he started his career as a classroom teacher and coach before advancing to campus and district leadership. For nearly 12 of those years, he served as superintendent in Duncanville ISD and Marshall ISD. In 2024, Dr. Smith returned “home” to Fort Bend ISD, where he honed his leadership skills as Executive Principal and Assistant Superintendent from 2006 to 2012.

He has received numerous recognitions and accolades for his exceptional leadership as Superintendent. Most honorably, in 2020, he was selected as the Region 10 Superintendent of the Year. Whether passing bond elections or increasing educational opportunities for students, Dr. Smith has made a profound and lasting impact on the districts he has served. His influence and legacy in Duncanville ISD were commemorated when the Board of Trustees named the Teaching and Learning Center in his honor for his dedication to the district’s students and staff.

In his first year of leadership in Fort Bend ISD, Dr. Smith prioritized establishing relationships with the Board, leadership development, and evaluating student academic performance data. Additionally, he was successful in reducing the Bond 2023 budget shortfall by $99 million.

As the leader of Fort Bend ISD, he continues to focus on stakeholder engagement and cultivating students to be leaders in the community. His leadership style is grounded in the “PAC” mentality, centered on Professionalism, Accountability, and Communication.

Dr. Smith holds a doctorate in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston and a master's degree in Administration and Supervision from Prairie View A&M University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Performance from Texas Southern University. Dr. Smith is married to his lovely wife, Tina, and is the proud father of three adult children (Two sons and one daughter). In his leisure time, he can be found playing golf, reading, traveling, listening to music, or watching sports.
