• Membership Chair

Josh Griffin's installation was a wonderful event with Rotarians and family members present.  We reviewed President Mark Heuchert's year during which our club had over 25 projects and 1,000 volunteer hours!  Mark created a presentation on the year in review, and also had a prepared speech that spoke to the importance of Rotary in his life, and how Rotary impacts our community in many positive ways.

Every year so many members work so hard to support our community through Rotary and our club, and during the installation some of these amazing Rotarians received well-deserved recognition.  Please see below for a summary of awards given.

Hello SLRC members.  For the 2024-2025 Rotary Year, the Membership committee had a competition to see who could recruit the most new members.  The winner is: Mark Heuchert!  Congratulations to Mark, and now let's drive membership even more under Josh's term!

Sugar Land Rotary Foundation Card-Draw Raffle: WINNER!

We are excited to announce that Mary Favre had the winning ticket!  She will receive $740, and another $740 will go to the Sugar Land Foundation to support our scholarship programs.

Well this Rotary year is winding down and Josh will be sitting on the Presidential throne soon and learning how to ring the bell.

Mark's last Presidential club meeting will be this week Wednesday 11 June. He will be headed to Canada for the RI convention and the other thing he does is make money in his job in Vegas. We will pull the final raffle tickets and announce the cash winner this Wednesday club meeting. We will also have the discussion and vote for the new club bylaws this Wednesday. We will announce the Membership Growth Contest winner this week also.

We will have a club meeting on Wednesday 18 June.

We will not hold club meetings on 25 June and 2 July due to RI convention and 4th July holiday.

Well it was another Saturday Work Day in the life of the Rotary Club of Sugar Land. Last Saturday we were at the Thrift Wise Fort Bend Women’s Center Store and mulched all the trees and landscaping areas around the property. We had a total of 25 Volunteers including 14 Rotarians and family members, 10 ROTC students/leader and 1 House of Representative from Congress(Representative). Did you notice the new Rotary shirts worn by the Rotarians in the pictures!! Well when you come to a work project with our Club you can get a free shirt that says “Rotarian at Work”. We look forward to having you all come to the next club work day!!

Edited email from Karen Blakeman, Rotarian:  "at a recent District 5890 Peace Committee Zoom Meeting, District Governor Nancy Anderson informed everyone that there was some discussion about having a project to help young women stay in school during their monthly cycle.  Hard to believe that here in Houston we have a problem like the 3rd world countries that Rotary has programs for.  But it's understandable that those families struggling financially come up short for purchasing feminine hygiene needs.  We know that staying in school is how to break the poverty cycle – so this is vital!

The solution is to have products stocked at schools, available to students at no charge with no questions asked.

Getting this started is a project that Interact students can be involved in.

It’s probably obvious that this is not a one-and-done project – but something needed on an ongoing basis.

If you are interested in knowing more, please join a zoom discussion on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7pm."

Well it has been great fun as membership chair for the last 4 years. I got to meet and talk with all new members and also members that resigned from the club. Have built great relationships for now and for the long term.  It has also been very busy. I will no longer be the club membership chair and my replacement has yet to volunteer. I am here to train and guide the new chairperson with all the membership skills I have gained. I hope the club will pick up the job duties needed to greet and introduce new prospects into the club in the coming future.

I will continue to be the club administrator and continue only the duties related to this position. If you have any suggestions or comments that need to be brought before the club board please let me know. Let's have a great new Rotary year with Josh leading us till June 2026.
